Aboriginal and Islander Community Education Counsellor The Aboriginal and Islander Education Counsellor provides pastoral care and support, and advocacy for indigenous children within the school community. The person provides : - educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and Islander students within the school - participates in the development of activities, in and out of school, likely to enhance the involvement in the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families - build links with appropriate networks (eg. family services, health) - make home visits to parents of students within our school community - monitor student attendance and achievement - assist teachers in developing appropriate teaching strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students - assist teachers in incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies in their subject areas and provides advice on appropriate resources - attends ASSPA meetings (Aboriginal Student Support and Parent Awareness Programme)
