Education Queensland International (EQI) lets you experience a world class education here in Australia, but why choose Pimlico State High School in Townsvile?

Former Pimlico student Yu Chen can give you a little help with that decision.

Excursions & Experiences

With 300 days of sunshine on average per year, North Queensland offers breathtaking natural experiences including the Great Barrier Reef, the outback golden beaches, rainforests, island getaways - making it the ultimate destination for blending a first class education and a laid back tropical lifestyle.

Orientation

Students fly into Townsville Airport and are met up with our Homestay Coordinator as well as a member of their new host family. The first two days of school are spent ensuring the students understand what being a Pimlico scholar involves. We also take them on a tour of the Strand, have an Aussie Fish and Chip picnic lunch and stop off to assist them purchasing their uniforms.

The School Experience

Interested in becoming a homestay family?

Our Homestay families accept students from a range of other countries into their home and family for anywhere from 3 months to several years.

Our Homestay families provide the student with support for their academic study and general well-being as well as show sensitivity to the difficulties the students may facing as they adjust to an English language environment, especially around different lifestyle, new food and homesickness.

The international students gain a true Australian experience within these families as they are immersed in the day to day family life experiences.

The School International Student Coordinator and Homestay Coordinator meet with the homestay families both formally and informally to ensure regular contact and clarity in expectations.

A homestay host provides:

  • A clean, safe & friendly home
  • A private bedroom with a desk & suitable storage place
  • Three nutritious meals per day
  • Assistance to access transport to and from school and for school-related activites

What do homestay hosts receive?

  • A fortnightly payment to cover the student's meals and homestay expenses
  • Lifelong international friendships and cultural enrichment
  • Training and on-going support from our school
